Still Life Paintings

The first painting I ever exhibited was a still life of a plant done in pastel when I was in fifth or sixth grade; working in pastel didn’t stay with me but still life as a subject did – the first painting that I consider part of the work I do now was a still life, a fairly close-in view of russet and red potatoes.   Whether my subject is taken from the natural world or a man-made object, the close focus gives me as a representational painter a strong sense of working with purely abstract shape.
