Flower Paintings

All close-focus painters of flowers owe a debt of gratitude to Georgia O’Keeffe, who was the first to reveal the possibilities of this “macro” viewpoint.  For me, it is the intimate beauty of the play of light on the petals that is irresistible, as it this light that reveals the structure of the interlocking shapes that are so compelling in flowers and which repeat throughout nature. It is a subject I return to regularly.
